The Anna Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore is Cascina Giovinale's flagship wine and is produced from a small selection from a historic vineyard in Nizza Monferrato. This particular Barbera comes from more than 60-year-old vines that naturally give very low yields. The combination of calcareous marl soils, a southwest exposure and an extremely limited production of less than 2,000 bottles per year results in a wine with exceptional concentration, depth and character.
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand at optimum ripeness and carefully selected to include only the best fruit. Fermentation and maceration take place for about 20 days at controlled temperatures of 28°C, after which the wine is aged for a long time in French wooden barrels. In the glass, Anna shows an intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections. The bouquet is rich and complex, with aromas of black fruits, liquorice and cinchona bark. On the palate, the wine presents itself powerful and structured, with a fine balance between finesse, concentration and lively acidity that makes for a long and impressive finish.
This Barbera d'Asti Superiore is a wine for special moments and gourmet dishes. It pairs excellently with rich meat dishes, game, stews and aged cheeses, but also comes into its own perfectly as a meditation wine.
