The Akra Cynthia is a rare and authentic white wine made from Pecorello, one of Calabria’s oldest indigenous grape varieties. The vineyards of Tenuta Santa Venere are situated on sunny terraces in Castrovillari, at the foot of the Pollino Mountains, on deep, matured brown-red soils rich in minerals and microelements. The grapes are harvested by hand in September, after which they are destemmed and pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by four months’ ageing sur lie and a further period of refinement in steel and in bottle for at least two months.
In the glass, the Cynthia displays a bright, fresh colour. The nose is elegant and expressive, with intense notes of wild flowers and a delicate, iodine-like minerality that reflects the rich soil and Mediterranean character of Calabria. On the palate, the wine is dry and robust, with a savoury finish that fully expresses the character of the rare Pecorello grape variety.
The Akra Cynthia is a versatile and immediately appealing wine for the table that pairs excellently with cold meats, fish and white meat. Its fresh minerality and floral aromas also make it ideal as an aperitif with light Mediterranean appetisers.
