The Etna Bianco Crociere 2022 is a pure, mineral white wine made from 100% Carricante, sourced from a single vineyard in the municipality of Milo, on the eastern slopes of Etna at 870 meters above sea level. The vineyard was saved from a volcanic eruption in 1971 and now finds itself as an island, entirely surrounded by lava. On the volcanic, sandy soils rich in lapilli and pumice stone, the grapes are organically cultivated using the traditional alberello method. After a gentle pressing and cold decantation, the wine ferments for 12 days at a controlled temperature (12–15°C) in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled 10 months after harvest and continues to mature in the bottle.
The 2022 vintage was characterised by a wet autumn and dry winter, followed by a warm summer without extreme heat peaks. Rain at the end of summer allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly, after which the harvest was completed on October 11th. In the glass, the Crociere 2022 shows a pale straw yellow colour, bright and dense. The nose is expressive and herbal, with white flowers, lime, wax and a pronounced minerality. On the palate the wine is tight and straightforward, with precise freshness, lots of energy and a salty finish that lingers long.
The Crociere 2022 is ready to drink now but also has excellent ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as mussels, oysters and prawns, grilled or pan-fried fish, light pasta with fish or shellfish and fresh cheeses. Its strong minerality and salty freshness also make it a wonderful aperitif at a summer meal.
