Product description
The Etna Rosso Contrada Picciolo 2020 is the very first wine produced by Casale 120, a historic bottle that marks the beginning of this special wine project on Mount Etna. It comes from a single vineyard in Contrada Picciolo, Rovittello, on the northern slope of Mount Etna at an altitude of 670 metres. The historic terraces, planted with vines aged between 80 and 120 years, are organically cultivated using the alberello method. Following manual selection and destemming, the grapes are macerated on the skins at 23–26°C. Ageing takes place for 8 months in stainless steel, followed by 6 months of bottle ageing. Only 1,300 bottles were produced.
The 2020 vintage was ideal: a cold winter and a mild spring ensured balanced growth cycles and healthy grapes. The harvest was completed on 15 October. In the glass, the Contrada Picciolo displays a medium-intensity ruby red colour. The nose is intense and pure, with notes of red fruit complemented by subtle spices, in which black and white pepper are clearly present. On the palate, the wine is fresh and light, with well-extracted tannins and a long, mineral finish that beautifully reflects the terroir of Contrada Picciolo.
The Contrada Picciolo 2020 is now at its peak and pairs wonderfully with grilled red meat, lamb dishes, game, mature cheeses and savoury pasta dishes. Whether as a special collector’s bottle or to enjoy with a festive dinner, this is a unique opportunity.
