Of the three Ortsweine produced by Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt – from the Mosel, Ruwer and Saar – the Wiltingen is the most elegant. Wiltingen lies at the heart of the Saar, the cold, windswept side valley of the Mosel that leaves its mark on everything that grows there. The dark brown slate and the crisp microclimate give the Riesling here a smoky, salty character and a razor-sharp precision found nowhere else.
This is a dry Saar Riesling in its most classic form: taut, smoky and salty, precise and, at the same time, incredibly exciting. Harvested entirely by hand, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel. Clear and pale yellow in the glass. The nose is understated yet revealing: smoke, salt, citrus and minerals. On the palate, it is taut and straightforward, with lively acidity and a long, penetrating finish. A wine that demands attention and gives it back in full.
Pairs well with fish, salads and white meat, but is also wonderful on its own. Serve at 9–11°C.
