Domaine Luyton-Fleury's Hermitage "Les Vercandières" 2023 comes from the sunny southern slopes of the legendary Hermitage hill in the northern Rhône. Here, on poor granite soils and with vines some of which are over eighty years old, it creates a wine that exudes tranquillity, depth and elegance. The Marsanne grape varieties find their ideal home here, giving a pure expression of this historic appellation.
The 2023 vintage demanded patience and skill. A dry winter and spring caused stress in the vineyard, followed by intense heat and thunderstorms. These very conditions gave the wine its character. After 12 months of aging in oak, the wine shows a golden yellow colour and a complex aroma of white flowers, quince and honey, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla. On the palate, it is full and layered, with tension and refinement.
This Hermitage is made for the moment and for the future. Already wonderful with refined dishes such as sea bass fillet with mashed potatoes, but also excellent for maturing for another decade or more. With a limited production of only 850 bottles, Les Vercandières is a wine for lovers looking for authenticity, terroir and timeless class.
