Crozes-Hermitage "Terre du Sud" 2023 from Domaine Luyton-Fleury is an expressive red wine from the heart of the northern Rhone. This cuvée takes its name from the southern location of the plots, where the sun has free play and the Syrah can ripen optimally. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation, created in 1937, is known for wines that combine accessibility with clear terroir expression, and this wine captures exactly that character in the glass.
The 2023 vintage demanded a lot from the vines. A dry winter and spring caused slight water stress, followed by intense heat and refreshing summer storms. The vineyards are scattered within the appellation on soils of rolling boulders and red clay, making for ripe grapes with concentration and freshness. The wine matures exclusively in stainless steel tanks, fully preserving the pure fruit and spicy Syrah expression.
In the glass, "Terre du Sud" shows purple and shiny. The nose is spicy and peppery, with floral notes of violets and fresh, fruity undertones. On the palate, the wine is supple and lively, with juicy red fruit, discrete tannins and an accessible structure. A true gourmet Rhone wine that gives pleasure now, but can also effortlessly continue to develop for several years. Ideal with refined but uncomplicated dishes and perfect to enjoy young.
