The 'Prioris' Primitivo Salento IGP 2016 is a unique, powerfully structured red wine that embodies the soul of Masseria Cicella. This wine is a tribute to the farm life of yesteryear, where scents, flavours and memories come together in a rich, full expression of Salento's terroir. Made from 100% Primitivo grapes and from an exceptional vintage, this is a limited edition of only 3,000 numbered bottles.
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of September. After fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in French and American oak barriques, followed by additional maturation in steel and bottle. This refined ageing results in a deep ruby red wine that tends towards garnet red with age. The nose is ethereal, lush and complex, with layered aromas of cherries on alcohol, sieve fruit jam, blueberries and blackcurrants, framed by subtle wood notes. On the palate, 'Prioris' is powerful, dry and warm, with intense fruit structure, concentrated flavours and lively tannins ending in an elegant touch of cocoa and liquorice.
With an impressive alcohol content of 18.5%, this wine is the perfect companion to rich dishes such as pasta with ragù, pork stew, tripe rolls, roasted meats and semi-aged cheeses. But even on its own, on a cold winter evening, this wine manages to impress with its depth, warmth and power. An exclusive wine for those looking for an intense experience with character.
