'Vieilles Vignes' Valle d'Aosta DOC Superiore

The Vieilles Vignes 2020 is a distinctive, noble wine made from carefully selected vineyards planted with old vines of the indigenous Nebbiolo variety Picotendro. The grapes are harvested at an advanced stage of ripeness, with a small percentage of Fumin added to soften the tannins and enhance the wine’s color intensity. This exclusive wine holds a special place in the local winemaking tradition. In the best vintages, winegrowers would traditionally reserve a small portion of their last-harvested grapes, picked in November, to create a truly special wine.

The wine displays a ruby-red color with garnet reflections and a full, elegant bouquet featuring notes of sour cherry, blueberry and rosehip. On the palate, it is dry, rounded and harmonious, with a refined balance of fruit, structure and tannins. The blend consists of 95% Nebbiolo and 5% Fumin. The grapes grow on steep, well-drained, gravelly slopes facing south to southeast, at an altitude of 350 to 400 metres, in the municipalities of Donnas, Perloz, Pont-Saint-Martin and Bard. The vines are trained using the pergola system, with a density of 2,500 vines per hectare and a limited yield of 60 quintals per hectare. The wine has an alcohol content of 14.5%, a total acidity of 6.22 g/l and a dry extract of 32.60 g/l.

The harvest takes place between early and mid-November, when the grapes have reached their optimal ripeness. After vinification in stainless steel tanks, the wine ages for 24 months in large 2,500-litre oak barrels. This extended maturation contributes to its refined character and harmonious structure. Vieilles Vignes 2020 pairs particularly well with red meat, game dishes and well-aged cheeses. A characterful wine for those who appreciate tradition, terroir and refinement.
