The blackbird is light on its feet, lively and impossible to ignore. That’s exactly what this wine is like. The Blackbird Cuvée is Grandbois’s answer to the question of how to make a red wine that has depth without being heavy. With an alcohol content of just 9.5%, this is the ultimate ‘glou-glou’ wine, as the French call it: a wine you find yourself drinking one glass after another, yet one that plays in the Champions League when it comes to craftsmanship and character.
Equal parts Satin Noir and Pinot Noir ferment spontaneously and mature in neutral 400-litre French tonneau barrels. These used Cabernet barrels give the wine a delicate, smoky spiciness and a structure you wouldn’t expect from such a low alcohol content. No added sulphites, unfiltered and 100% vegan. In the glass, it is a clear cherry red with a lively sheen. The nose is playful and inviting: juicy wild raspberries and red forest fruits take centre stage, with a subtle smoky note in the background. On the palate, it is fresh, light and lively, yet with enough grip and length to hold your attention.
The Blackbird is designed to be served slightly chilled and pairs well with dishes created by creative home cooks. Think grilled vegetables with salsa verde, pizza with spicy salami or a lentil salad with herbs and feta. Serve at 12–14°C, or slightly cooler if you prefer a proper ‘chilled red’.
The wine comes directly from the winemakers, they send the bottles themselves.
