Rio Maggio's Rio Rosso Piceno DOC is a wine with deep roots in the history of the Marche region. The name refers to the river that runs alongside the vineyards, symbolising the lifeline of this fertile land. This Rosso Piceno is a tribute to the age-old wine-making tradition of the Piceni, the people who grew wine in this area before Roman times. The wine is made from a classic blend of 50% Montepulciano and 50% Sangiovese, two noble grape varieties that combine the strength of the former and the elegance of the latter.
After the manual harvest in September, the grapes undergo cold soaking, followed by fermentation at controlled temperature (26-28°C) in stainless steel tanks. Thanks to this careful vinification, the wine develops a beautiful ruby colour with violet hues and a fruity aroma in which ripe cherries and berries predominate. On the palate, the Rio Rosso Piceno is supple, round and balanced, with soft tannins and a pleasant freshness that gives the wine its excellent drinkability. A short ageing in steel and bottle enhances its pure, lively character without losing its natural charm.
This wine is a versatile companion at the table. It pairs perfectly with red and white meats, fine meats, cheeses and even a rich fish soup. Serve Rio Rosso Piceno DOC lightly at temperature, between 16 and 18°C, to fully show off its fruity aromas and supple structure. An approachable yet characterful wine that authentically reflects the soul of the Marches.
