Leo Aumann's Rotgipfler Ried Wiege 2022 has its origins in a special vineyard near Baden bei Wien, whose name "Wiege" - or cradle - refers to the mountainous location that makes this place so unique. Here, on sandy loam soils in the Thermenregion, wines are created with power, structure and distinct character.
Aged for 12 months in 500-litre wooden barrels, this Rotgipfler undergoes spontaneous fermentation, followed by prolonged contact with the fine lie. This gives the wine its depth and complexity. In the nose, ripe and tropical fruit notes emerge, while subtle hints of vanilla and wood provide additional layering. On the palate, the wine is powerful and creamy, with a lively freshness that keeps it elegant and drinkable at the same time.
The structure is firm and convincing, with a nice balance between ripe fruit, acidity and wood influence. The long, harmonious finish makes this a wine with great storage potential, which will only develop further in the years to come.
