This Pinot Blanc from Lichti & Astroh is a distinctly characterful expression of the grape, grown on limestone-rich sandy loess soils in the Palatinate. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation and ages for 12 months in used oak barrels, bottled unfiltered to preserve its purity and structure. The result is a wine that combines finesse with depth and a clear expression of terroir.
On the nose, the wine opens with nutty and slightly woody notes, combined with aromas of candied citrus, stone fruit, and subtle mushroom nuances. As the wine opens up, fresh vegetal notes and a hint of dark fruit also emerge. On the palate, the wine is crisp, dry, and mineral, with lively acidity and a layered structure in which notes of smoke, wax, and citrus also reappear.
The finish is powerful, juicy, and distinctly mineral, with lovely tension and length. This Pinot Blanc is a gastronomic wine that pairs excellently with poultry, creamy dishes, mushrooms, fish, and refined vegetarian cuisine. Its complexity also comes through beautifully with dishes featuring earthy notes.
