The Akra Rosso is the first and most authentic red wine from Akra Vini di Calabria, made from 100% Aglianico, the great red grape variety of southern Italy. The vineyards of Tenuta Santa Venere are situated on deep, matured brown-red soils in Castrovillari, surrounded by the protective mountain ranges of the Sila and Pollino, which provide the vineyards with cool breezes and an ideal microclimate. The grapes are harvested in September at full ripeness, after which the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks using gentle vinification and moderate extraction, followed by ageing in steel and in bottle.
In the glass, the Akra Rosso displays a radiant ruby red with youthful purple highlights. The nose is lively and inviting, with aromas of fresh berries such as raspberry and blackberry, complemented by subtle spicy notes of black pepper, typical of the Aglianico grape variety. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, juicy and youthfully energetic, with firm yet silky-smooth tannins and a rich finish of delicate fruit and spices that reflect the character of the Mediterranean light and the Calabrian soil.
With its full body and spicy freshness, the Akra Rosso is an excellent accompaniment to cold meats, medium-aged and hard cheeses, white meat and red meat, including grilled dishes. It also pairs superbly with richer pasta dishes with meat sauces or grilled Calabrian sausages.
