Akra Julia is a delicate and elegant white sparkling wine, the pure expression of the Moscato grapes grown at Tenuta Santa Venere in Castrovillari. The grapes are harvested by hand in August and placed whole into a pneumatic press, with only the free-run must being used for the sparkling wine production. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature in a 50-hectolitre autoclave, followed by a slow secondary fermentation lasting approximately 90 days, resulting in a residual sugar content of 6g/l, which gives the wine its fine balance between freshness and smoothness.
In the glass, the Julia displays a clear, pale straw-yellow colour with soft green highlights and a fine, persistent effervescence. The nose is elegant and refined, with intense floral notes of white blossom and ripe golden apple. On the palate, the wine is harmonious and smooth, with a pleasantly soft texture that is beautifully balanced by a lively acidity. Three months’ ageing on the lees lends the wine extra complexity and finesse.
The Akra Julia is a versatile and approachable spumante that pairs excellently with aperitifs, starters and finger food, delicate fish dishes and vegetable dishes, including those from ethnic cuisines. Its fresh, floral character also makes it ideal as an accompaniment to light desserts or as a festive welcome drink.
