Product description
Saint-Joseph Rouge "Les Grands Ducs" 2024 comes from a spectacular, restored plot on steep terraces above the Vieux Rhône near Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf. Here, Laurent Merlin brought the old chayets back to life and replanted the vineyard, giving voice to this exceptional terroir once again. On granitic soils with schistose veins, east-exposed and surrounded by forest, Syrah ripens slowly to aromatic intensity while retaining freshness and elegance.
Harvesting is done by hand and vinification follows a long maceration of whole bunches in tronconic cuves of wood and concrete, with gentle extraction at the foot for precision. The wine matures for 18 months in 220 L tonneaux, supplemented by 10% Italian amphorae, which builds structure and complexity without masking terroir expression. Tradition and innovation meet here in one cuvée.
In the glass, the wine is silky and fruit-driven, with spicy depth. Aromas of soft spices and blond tobacco are complemented by spicy, herbaceous notes of juniper and bay leaf coming from the whole bunches. The tannins are fine and balanced, carried by a subtle mineral freshness. The finish is long, harmonious and seductive - a Saint-Joseph with class and great storage potential.
Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery. All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.
To guarantee safe delivery, it is therefore also a requirement that orders are always made in multiples of 6 bottles.
The following shipping costs apply:
6 bottles at the same winery: €6,-
12+ bottles at the same winery: No shipping costs
You can order from several wineries at the same time. The above shipping costs apply to each individual winery.
