Condrieu "Jeanraude" 2024 comes from one of the appellation's most spectacular sites, right next to Château-Grillet. The steep, south-east-exposed terraces ("chayets") overlook the Rhône and are entirely cultivated by hand. A rare terroir is expressed here: limon-sandy soils on blue granite, unique to this part of Condrieu, which give the wine its distinctive finesse and mineral tension. The morning sun and natural ventilation from the Rhone valley ensure healthy, balanced grapes.
The vineyard is farmed organically (unlabelled) and maintained entirely without a tractor; one in two rows is tended by motobineuse. With low yields (30 hl/ha) and careful leafwork, the Viognier remains balanced, without hydration stress. After precise clarification, the wine matures in 220 L barriques (used 1-3 times), with natural malolactic fermentation in spring. With no bâtonnage or soutirage and a light plate filtration before bottling, the expression remains pure and precise.
In the glass, Jeanraude opens with smoky and toasty notes, intertwined with apricot and jasmine. The mouth is rich and layered, but retains a fresh backbone that balances the power of Viognier. A big Condrieu with depth, excitement and impressive storage potential.
