Domaine Gilg's Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes 2024 is an elegant red wine from the heart of Alsace, from around 35-year-old vines around the village of Mittelbergheim. The vines grow on argilo-limestone-rich soils, which provide structure, finesse and a distinct terroir expression. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected so that only perfectly ripe and healthy bunches enter the cellar. Working organically, the estate combines traditional soil management with natural vegetation between rows, encouraging biodiversity and soil life.
In the cellar, the wine is classically vinified. After destemming, a maceration of about a week follows, after which the wine is pressed. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation add roundness and balance. The wine is then aged in large wooden foudres, which softens the structure without dominating the fruit expression. This traditional ageing gives Pinot Noir its characteristic elegance and ensures a harmonious integration of aromas and tannins.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright ruby red colour. The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe red fruits such as cassis, red currants and cherries. On the palate, the wine is supple and generous, with soft tannins and a nice balance between fruit and freshness. Lightly chilled, the finesse of this Pinot Noir comes out best. The wine pairs excellently with charcuterie, cheese boards, tarte flambée, grilled meats and slightly spicy dishes.
