Domaine Gilg's Crémant d'Alsace Tradition Brut 2023 is an elegant sparkling wine that has been an important calling card of the estate for more than forty years. This refined crémant is composed of 40% Auxerrois, 30% Pinot Gris and 30% Riesling, a typical Alsatian assemblage that perfectly combines freshness, fruit and structure. The grapes grow on argilo-limestone-rich soils on gentle slopes around Mittelbergheim, Andlau, Barr and Gertwiller, at an altitude between 160 and 300 metres. Manual harvesting and rigorous selection of healthy grapes creates a high-quality base for this traditional sparkling wine.
The wine is produced using the méthode traditionnelle, the same method used for Champagne. A gentle pressing of whole bunches is followed by an initial fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Second fermentation then takes place in the bottle, after which the wine matures on the lie for at least 12 to 24 months. This long ageing creates a fine mousse, extra complexity and an elegant structure. The final dosage of around 7 g/l gives the wine its balanced Brut style.
In the glass, this Crémant shows a fresh and aromatic style with delicate notes of white fruit, citrus and delicate white flowers. The mousse is fine and lively, while the mouthfeel remains beautifully round and balanced. The finish is elegant, fresh and harmonious. This versatile sparkling wine is perfect as an aperitif, but also pairs excellently with light starters, seafood or festive occasions where a sophisticated bubble should not be missing.
