Domaine Gilg's Riesling Vieilles Vignes 2024 is an elegant and characterful Alsatian Riesling, sourced from more than 35-year-old vines around Gertwiller, Mittelbergheim and Andlau. The vineyards are on argilo-limestone-rich soils, known for their ability to produce wines with finesse, tension and mineral freshness. Working organically certified, the estate combines traditional soil management with natural vegetation between the rows, stimulating soil life and allowing the grapes to best express their terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected so that only perfectly ripe and healthy bunches enter the cellar.
In the cellar, a vinification that focuses on the pure expression of Riesling is chosen. The grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, after which the juice is statically clarified for 24 hours. Fermentation takes place in thermally controlled stainless steel tanks at around 20 °C and lasts around 15 to 20 days. The wine is then aged for about eight months in inox, which creates a bright, pure style where the fruit, freshness and mineral structure are fully preserved. This wine also received 87 points at Best of Riesling, a nice recognition of its quality.
In the glass, this Riesling shows fine, elegant and expressive, with fresh aromas of citrus and subtle mineral notes. On the palate, the wine is tight and lively, with nice tension and a long, fresh finish. Thanks to its pronounced freshness and structure, this Riesling is an excellent companion to fish dishes, choucroute, smoked meat and poultry, as well as spicy dishes that feature spices such as curry or saffron.
