'Regina' Derthona Colli Tortonesi DOC Timorasso Riserva is made from 100% Timorasso, a grape often called the 'white Barolo' for its strength, structure and impressive ageing potential. The grapes come from the hills around Montemarzino and Monleale in Piedmont, at 400 metres altitude, on clay-limestone soils with marl. The grapes are harvested by hand in early September and gently pressed. After cold static settling, the juice ferments at controlled temperature. The wine matures for 11 months on fine lees in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with regular bâtonnage, followed by a further seven months of bottle rest. Limited use of sulphite and a screw cap ensure optimal freshness and ageing capacity.
In the glass, 'Regina' shines with an intense, bright straw yellow colour. On the nose, a rich aromatic palette of peach, apricot and candied citrus unfolds, supported by a distinct minerality and subtle notes of honey. On the palate, the wine is structured, fresh and briny, with a long and persistent finish in which ripe fruit aromas and lively acidity are perfectly balanced.
With an alcohol content of 13.5% and total acidity of 7.0 g/L, this unfiltered Timorasso has a storage potential of eight to 12 years. 'Regina' is excellent with dishes such as risotto with mushrooms or truffles, fried fish, seafood, flavoursome white meats and matured or blue-veined cheeses. We recommend serving the wine at 13-15°C in a large Burgundy glass to fully unleash all its aromas.
