This Spätburgunder trocken Barrique 2022 shows how elegant Pinot Noir can be in the cool Moselle climate. The wine is made from 100% Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and matured for 12 months in neutral 225-litre French oak barriques. In the glass, it shows a bright cherry-red colour with garnet-like reflections, a visual hint at the refined wood ageing and its understated power.
On the nose, pure Pinot Noir aromas emerge: red fruit takes centre stage, supported by subtle wood influences. Tones of vanilla, caramel and a slight smokiness are reminiscent of fine whisky notes, without overpowering the fruit. The barrique ageing mainly adds spiciness and nuance, exactly as is typical for German Spätburgunder from a cool climate.
On the palate, the wine is supple and harmonious, with perfectly integrated acids and a mouthfeel that feels surprisingly round despite the very low residual sugar content. The tannins are fine and friendly, while the wood influence adds depth and length. This makes the wine particularly gourmet and well suited to dishes with pork or game. A Pinot Noir that bets on elegance, balance and drinking pleasure, with barrique providing refined support.
