U’ Mest is a powerful and deeply layered Primitivo that reflects not only the terroir of Puglia, but also the character and perseverance of the people who live there. Made from 100% Primitivo grapes sourced from organically managed vineyards at an altitude of 400 meters, this wine tells a personal story. The name is a tribute to ‘the Master of the House’, father Vito, who proudly and devotedly continued the family heritage once started by grandfather Francesco. The southern exposure and limestone- and clay-rich soils produce ripe grapes with concentration and power.
After the harvest at the end of September, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with fifteen days of skin contact to gain structure and depth. Malolactic fermentation is completed, after which the wine is aged for twelve months in French oak barriques and tonneaux. This is followed by at least a year of bottle aging. This long maturation gives U' Mest its impressive balance, power, and aging potential.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright, deep ruby red color. The nose is rich and refined, with notes of cherry juice, wild berries, and ripe plum, followed by spicy and floral accents of rosehip, myrtle, carob, and pink pepper. On the palate, U' Mest is full-bodied and seductive, with a precise balance between freshness and glyceric richness, ripe tannins, and a long finish with toasted nuances. Served around 18 degrees, this is a wine that pairs well with rich meat dishes and strong cheeses, but can also be enjoyed on its own at the end of a meal.
