The Vallée d’Olmè Bianco 2024 is the white wine from Azienda Agricola Francesco Loi, made from 100% Catarratto grapes grown on vines that have been thriving at an altitude of 850 metres in the Sicilian Madonie mountains since 1954. Catarratto is the white symbol of Sicily, and in the hands of Francesco Loi, it tells the story of the mountain air, the limestone soil and the pure minerality of Valledolmo. The wine is vinified and aged entirely in stainless steel tanks, which optimally preserves its fresh, direct fruitiness and mountainous minerality.
In the glass, the Bianco displays a straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights; it is clear and vibrant. The nose opens with citrus, flint and delicate floral notes. On the palate, the wine is soft and fresh, with good salinity and a lingering, mineral finish that brings to mind the mountain air. No fuss, just the pure expression of the mountain.
The Vallée d’Olmè Bianco is an excellent table wine to accompany fish dishes and light summer fare, but it also pairs surprisingly well with grilled red meat. Its fresh minerality also makes it delightful as an aperitif or with a platter of fresh cheeses and olives on a summer’s evening.
