Alert Orange is Vignobles Mallard's quirky take on orange wine: a white wine fermented as a red, with skin contact. The vineyard is tiny (0.5 hectares) and produces concentrated grapes with character. The skin soaking here gives Sauvignon Blanc structure and tannin, making the wine gastronomic and surprisingly versatile. Freshness predominates, with remarkably soft acidity that keeps the wine accessible and drinkable.
The wine is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc and vinified with maceration on the skins, as with red wine. This creates tannins and extra aromatic complexity. Orange wines are often lighter in alcohol and extra digestible, with a wide-ranging profile at the table.
In the glass, Alerte Orange shows a warm amber colour. The aroma and flavour are expressive and layered, with a wide aromatic range. The structure is slightly tannic and gives grip without being harsh. A characterful, versatile orange wine that not only works as an aperitif or with seafood, but can accompany an entire meal.
