L'Insolite is Vignobles Mallard's playful reinterpretation of Merlot: straight from Bordeaux, but with a modern, accessible twist. The vineyards are on sandy gravel soils, which makes for supple fruit and light structure. This cuvée is deliberately made with a small residual sweetness and a lower alcohol content (12.5%), making it extra friendly and approachable to drink - ideal for new red wine drinkers, without becoming boring for aficionados.
The wine is made from 100% Merlot. Fermentation is at low temperature with a very short skin soaking (± a week) to keep tannins minimal and let the fruit speak for itself. This creates a soft, round style with a focus on juiciness and immediate drinking pleasure.
In the glass, L'Insolite is supple and charming. The nose is fruit-driven, the mouth round and slightly sweet, with soft tannins and easy drinkability. A modern Bordeaux style that listens to today's tastes: friendly, generous and uncomplicated.
