Château Moutin - La Grande Cuvée 2016, Graves AOC comes from the village of Portets, in the southern part of Graves. Located close to the Garonne River, the vineyards benefit from a cooling microclimate and an exceptional terroir of pure, concentrated Graves gravel with clay in the subsoil. With vines around 50 years old and a limited area of 3 hectares, this is a wine of focus and precision.
The blend consists of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. After rigorous selection, the grapes are fully destemmed and fermented for three weeks. After two weeks of maceration, the wine is transferred for malolactic fermentation in tank, with the press juice kept separate. Maturation lasts 18 to 24 months in oak barrels - 50% new (American and French oak) and 50% one-year old - followed by a year of bottle maturation.
In the glass, the 2016 shows a deep garnet red colour. The nose reveals enticing aromas of cherry jam with spicy and minty accents. On the palate, the wine is dry, intense and firmly structured, with a slight chalky texture reflecting the Graves terroir. Powerful but juicy, with a lively core and clear storage potential. A complex and characterful red Graves that develops beautifully with further bottle aging.
