This is the Barbera you wouldn’t expect. On the sandy and gravelly moraine soils of the Canavese, far from the rich clay soils of the classic Barbera region, Fratelli Marco produces a wine that is entirely focused on elegance. A brilliant colour, an intense nose and a delicate, light-footed character that immediately betrays the Alpine DNA of this place. Not a thick, heavy Barbera, but a slender, lively interpretation of the variety in a setting where it reveals its most refined side. And this has been recognised: gold at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
In the cellar, Fratelli Marco deliberately seeks to bring out the Alpine character. A short maceration gives the wine a delicate body and a vibrant colour, without allowing the oak notes to dominate. The Chèrmes matures partly in stainless steel and partly in French oak barrels for 9 months, which subtly hints at tertiary notes whilst leaving the freshness intact. In the glass, it is a brilliant red, intense and vibrant. The aroma is powerful and expressive. On the palate, it is elegant, fresh and persistent.
A versatile red wine to accompany pasta, red meat and mature cheeses. Thanks to its freshness, it is also suitable with fish and lighter dishes. Serve at 16–18°C.
