Erss Freisa d'Asti Superiore DOC bears its name with pride. In the Piedmontese dialect, Erss means dry, barren – a reference to the austere, honest character of the hills where this wine originates. Here, between sun and wind, Freisa vines over fifty years old grow on clay and limestone soils. They stand as silent witnesses to generations of craftsmanship and produce a wine that values authenticity above all else.
After classic vinification, the wine is aged for a year in French barriques, where the pronounced, dry tannins find refinement and balance. In the glass, “Erss” is an intense ruby red. The nose opens with ripe red fruits and subtle spicy nuances. On the palate, it is powerful yet harmonious, with firm but elegant tannins and a full, lingering finish. The structure remains tight and characterful, without losing any of its suppleness.
This Freisa d'Asti Superiore is surprisingly versatile at the table. It feels at home with grilled red meat and barbecue, where it enhances smoky flavours, but can also effortlessly handle spicy dishes from Oriental cuisine. Served at 16-18 °C, every sip tells the story of Piedmont: pure, powerful and honest.
