The Valicaia IGT Toscana from Fattoria Valacchi is a powerful and refined red wine that perfectly captures the essence of the Tuscan hills. This wine is made from grapes sourced from the estate's oldest and best located vineyards, where each vine bears only one cluster. The harvest is done entirely by hand, selecting only the ripest grapes. The blend consists of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, with each variety vinified separately to preserve its optimal ripeness and character. The wine ferments for more than 21 days in stainless steel vats and then matures for 24 months in 500-litre French oak tonneaux, followed by a bottle maturation of 7 to 9 months.
In the glass, the Valicaia shows a deep ruby red colour with garnet hues. The nose is complex and seductive, with notes of tobacco, black cherries, amarena and subtle spices. On the palate, it reveals layers of ripe red fruit, black pepper and spice, supported by a fresh structure and velvety balance. Long ageing in wood lends the wine depth, elegance and pleasing persistence on the finish. The result is a wine that brings together tradition and modern craftsmanship in perfect harmony - full-bodied, round and with a clearly recognisable Tuscan signature.
The Valicaia IGT Toscana is an excellent choice with refined meat dishes such as grilled beef, game or slow-cooked stews. Its rich, spicy character also comes into its own with aged cheeses. Serve this wine at 18-20Ā°C and give it a moment to breathe so that it can reveal its full aromatic complexity - a wine that invites enjoyment and admiration.
