Product description
VR Valcalepio Rosso 2018 is the Bergamasque interpretation of a classic Bordeaux blend, born on the rolling hills between Bergamo and Lake Iseo. The vineyards are on medium-heavy clay soils with a south to southwest exposure at 200-300 metres altitude. The proximity of the mountains gives the wine its distinctive freshness and excitement, while the sun provides ripe fruit and depth.
The blend consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Traditional destemming is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation at 26-28 °C in stainless steel, with a 10-day maceration and daily overpumping for colour and structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in inox, followed by 18 months aging in large wooden barrels. After bottling, the wine rests in bottle for 1-3 months before release.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright ruby red colour. The nose opens with floral hints and intense berry aromas on a spicy, slightly herbaceous (herbaal) framework, with subtle notes of cinchona bark and cocoa. On the palate, the wine combines ripe cherry with juniper and an intriguing smoky note on the finish. Freshness and lively acidity add tension, while structure provides length and storage potential.
Wine purchased via Onwine comes directly from the winery. All wineries pack the bottles themselves and hand them over to our shipping partner. Onwine works with boxes the size of 6 or 12 bottles.
To guarantee safe delivery, it is therefore also a requirement that orders are always made in multiples of 6 bottles.
The following shipping costs apply:
6 bottles at the same winery: €6,-
12+ bottles at the same winery: No shipping costs
You can order from several wineries at the same time. The above shipping costs apply to each individual winery.
