Product description
The Etna Rosso Senecio 2021 comes from Contrada Picciolo in Rovittello, on the northern slope of Mount Etna at an altitude of 670 metres, from vines aged between 80 and 120 years. Following a hand-harvest in mid-October, the grapes are macerated on the skins for 15 days at 23–26°C. Ageing takes place in several stages: 8 months in stainless steel, followed by 9 months in third-use French oak barriques, then a further 4 months in stainless steel and at least 1 year of bottle ageing. A total of 2,000 bottles were produced, plus 50 magnums.
In the glass, the Senecio 2021 displays a medium-intensity ruby red colour. The nose is intense, with notes of strawberry and cherry, interspersed with a varied floral bouquet. On the palate, the wine is fresh, long and mineral, with youthful tannins and a long finish. The various stages of ageing lend the wine an extra layer of complexity and refinement that perfectly complements the characteristic elegance of Nerello Mascalese.
The Senecio 2021 pairs excellently with grilled red meat, lamb dishes, game, pasta with meat sauce and mature cheeses. Its elegant freshness also makes it an excellent choice with dishes featuring mushrooms or truffles.
