Marqués del Hueco Reserva is a classic Rioja blend of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo and 5% Graciano, from 35- to 40-year-old vines in Laguardia, Elciego and Lapuebla. The combination of limestone, clay and alluvial soils at around 550 metres altitude creates a wine with depth, structure and refined freshness, ideal for longer ageing.
The grapes are harvested late and undergo a cold maceration of several days, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and daily remontages for optimal extraction. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French and American oak barriques, adding complexity and integrating wood tones.
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red colour with light brick reflections. The nose is expressive with notes of red cherry, forest fruits such as cassis and red currant, complemented by fresh, menthol-like accents and spicy nuances of white pepper and liquorice. On the palate, it is powerful but elegant, with silky tannins, lively acidity and a long, refined finish with subtle hints of coffee and toffee.
The wine comes directly from the winemakers, they send the bottles themselves.
