The Rosso Ongaresca is the estate’s house wine, an accessible yet characterful red blend that best showcases the versatility of the limestone soils of Monte Ongaresca. Comprising 70 to 80 per cent Merlot and 20 to 30 per cent Pinot Nero, this combination of two grape varieties produces a soft, fruity and pleasantly drinkable red wine.
The wine is aged for 9 months in stainless steel tanks. In the glass, it is an intense ruby red with violet reflections. The aroma is intense, with deep violet notes, ripe sugar, plums and a hint of pepper. The flavour is particularly pleasant and smooth, with notes of ripe red fruits, including cherries, cassis, a light blend of plum and raspberry, and a hint of grapes. On the palate, it is pleasantly smooth and velvety, with a lovely mouthfeel.
The Rosso Ongaresca pairs well with white meat dishes, grilled dishes and pasta. But it is also at home with a hearty cheese platter or with simple, everyday meals. Serve at 14–16°C.
