Weinreich's Heiter bis Wolkig 2022 is a quirky natural wine from Rheinhessen that shows how exciting wine can be when red and white grapes come together. The grapes grow in vineyards around Bechtheim, where soils of loess, loamy weathering and lime marl provide structure and lively minerality.
For this cuvée, Dornfelder and Kerner are fermented together on the skins with natural yeasts. Fermentation lasts four to six weeks, after which the wine is further aged on the fine lie in large wooden barrels. The wine is bottled unfiltered and with no added sulphites, fully preserving the pure character of the grapes.
In the glass, this wine shows playfulness and character. It is a wine that feels both fresh and energetic, with a lively structure and a slightly rough edge that provides tension. Lightly chilled, this cuvée comes into its own and shows how versatile and surprising natural wine can be.
