The Lacinio pays tribute to Giano Lacinio of Cirò, an illustrious 16th-century Franciscan alchemist, and is also the white wine through which Mimmo Vinci seeks to capture the rich diversity of his native region in a bottle. Made from a blend of Pecorello and Mantonico Bianco, two of Calabria’s oldest indigenous white grape varieties, grown on calcareous clay soils in the hills of Cirò. The grapes are harvested by hand in the second week of September and gently pressed without maceration, after which the wine matures for five months in stainless-steel tanks to fully preserve the fresh aromas and vibrancy of both varieties.
In the glass, the Lacinio displays a bright straw-yellow colour. The nose is enveloping and inviting, with lush floral and fruity notes that beautifully bring together the aromatic intensity of Pecorello and the delicate minerality of Mantonico Bianco. On the palate, the wine is delicate and persistent, with a fresh acidity, a slight briny note and a pleasantly long finish that reflects the Mediterranean character of the Cirò terroir.
Lacinio is a versatile wine for dining that pairs excellently with fish dishes, shellfish, seafood and light pasta dishes with fish. It also works very well with vegetable dishes, mild cheeses and as an aperitif.
