Nostalgia is where it all begins at I Ciacca. A crisp, dry white wine made from the rare Maturano Bianco — an ancient grape variety unique to the Picinisco region that had almost been forgotten. Fortunately, that is no longer the case. The grapes are gently pressed and ferment naturally over a long period. After nine months’ ageing on fine lees and a further twelve months in the bottle, the result is a wine that is ready to drink now, yet has the potential to age well.
In the glass, Nostalgia is a clear straw-yellow with a golden sheen. The aroma is inviting: honey, pear, citrus and a light floral note. In the background lies a subtle minerality reminiscent of chalk or wet stone — typical of the limestone soil on which the vineyard is situated at an altitude of 600 metres. On the palate, the wine is fresh and dry, with a lovely acidity that ties everything together. The flavour is elegant but not complicated: citrus, peach, a hint of almond and a long, dry finish.
Nostalgia is a lovely table wine that pairs well with light dishes. Think fish, seafood, fresh pasta and mild cheeses. It’s also a delight simply as an aperitif — especially when served chilled.
