La Canetana's Cabernet Franc 2022 is a special and personal wine: the estate's very first monocépage Cabernet Franc. Sourced from the Ermita vineyard, where sandy loamy soils with slight stone influences create a nice balance between power and finesse, this wine reflects both the terroir and the winery's ambition. The 2022 vintage also proved exceptionally strong, resulting in grapes of high quality and concentration.
After a manual harvest, the grapes undergo a 48-hour cold maceration, followed by fermentation and a long ageing of no less than 20 months in French oak barrels. This ageing gives the wine structure, depth and refined wood tones, while the fruit retains its vibrancy. The result is a wine that is both powerful and elegant, with a clear focus on balance.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby colour. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe black fruit, subtle toast notes, liquorice and cedar. On the palate, it is full and balanced, with fine acidity, ripe fruit and a spicy finish that lingers long. A characterful and successful first Cabernet Franc, with both depth and refinement.
