La Canetana's Daan 2022 is a powerful and personal monocépage, made entirely from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Although the estate normally focuses on blends, the exceptional 2022 vintage proved that this grape can also shine solo. The wine is named after its eldest grandchild, which makes this cuvée not only full of character, but also emotionally charged.
The grapes, from the Regals and Ermita vineyards with around 30-year-old vines, grow on sandy loamy soils with slight stone influences. After a careful manual harvest, the grapes undergo cold maceration, followed by fermentation and a long maturation of 28 months in French oak barrels. This ageing gives the wine structure, complexity and refined wood integration.
In the glass, Daan shows a deep ruby red colour. The nose opens with ripe black fruit, subtle toasted notes and cedar. On the palate, it is powerful but elegant, with fresh acids and nicely integrated tannins that provide balance and length. An impressive Cabernet Sauvignon with depth, finesse and a long future.
