The Etna Bianco Crociere 2024 is a pure, mineral white wine made from 100% Carricante, sourced from a single vineyard in the municipality of Milo, on the eastern slopes of Etna at 870 metres above sea level. The vineyard was saved from a volcanic eruption in 1971 and now finds itself as an island, entirely surrounded by lava. On the volcanic, sandy soils rich in lapilli and pumice stone, the grapes are organically cultivated using the traditional alberello method. After gentle pressing and cold decantation, the wine ferments for 12 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled 12 months after harvest and continues to mature in the bottle.
The 2024 vintage experienced warm but temperate summer conditions. Despite being one of the driest years in two decades, the volcanic soils of Etna demonstrated their remarkable ability to retain deep water reserves, keeping the grapes in excellent condition. The altitude acted as a natural thermal regulator, allowing for optimal ripening of the Carricante grape. In the glass, the Crociere 2024 shows a pale straw yellow colour with green reflections. The nose is expressive and elegant, with notes of green apple, white flowers, a pronounced minerality and a subtle citrus touch. On the palate the wine is dry, fresh and energetic, with a precise acidity, a salty note and a long finish.
The Crociere 2024 is ready to drink now but also has excellent ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with seafood, grilled or pan-fried fish, light pasta with fish or shellfish and fresh cheeses. Its strong minerality and salty freshness also make it a wonderful aperitif at a summer meal.
