Domaine Gilg's 2022 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Zotzenberg is a rich and elegant Alsatian wine from the prestigious Grand Cru Zotzenberg in Mittelbergheim. This vineyard is situated on a marno limestone-rich slope with a south-southeast exposure, at altitudes between 220 and 350 metres. The combination of sunny slopes and calcareous soils creates wines with concentration, aromatic depth and a distinct terroir character. The vineyards are farmed organically, with traditional soil management and natural vegetation between the rows. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected so that only perfectly ripe and healthy bunches are used for this Grand Cru.
In the cellar, a vinification that highlights the richness and complexity of the Pinot Gris is chosen. The grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, after which the juice is statically clarified for 24 hours. Fermentation takes place in thermally controlled stainless steel tanks at around 20 °C and lasts around 15 to 20 days. The wine then matures for about eight months in inox, fully preserving its fruit and aromatic expression. With a higher residual sugar content, the wine develops a soft, slightly sweet style (moelleux) with extra depth and structure.
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a bright golden yellow colour with warm reflections. The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, followed by subtle notes of honey and a slight toasted nuance. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, soft and harmonious, with a rich texture and an elegant, long finish. This gourmet wine pairs beautifully with foie gras, exotic and spicy dishes, Asian cuisine and desserts, but also comes into its own as a special aperitif.
