Domaine Gilg's 2023 Riesling Grand Cru Zotzenberg comes from the historic slopes of the Grand Cru Zotzenberg in Mittelbergheim, one of Alsace's most characterful terroirs. The vineyards lie on marno-limestone-rich soils on south- to southeast-facing slopes between 220 and 350 metres altitude. This combination of calcareous soil and optimal zone exposure gives the Riesling its distinctive minerality, tension and aromatic precision. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected in early October, from organically farmed plots where traditional tillage and natural vegetation promote biodiversity and soil health.
After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, followed by a 24-hour static clarification. Fermentation takes place in thermally controlled stainless steel tanks for about 15 to 20 days. The wine then matures for eight months in inox, fully preserving the pure expression of the Riesling and its terroir. With an alcohol content of 13% and fresh acidity, the wine develops a style that is both precise, lively and gastronomic.
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a bright golden yellow colour. The aroma opens with refined notes of citrus fruits such as grapefruit and candied lemon, complemented by subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, the wine is intense, fresh and elegant, with a long finish that perfectly combines salty minerality and lively acidity. This Riesling is a true gourmet wine with great keeping potential, ideal with seafood, fish dishes, Asian cuisine or refined white meat dishes.
