Domaine Gilg's 2022 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Zotzenberg comes from the prestigious slopes of the Grand Cru Zotzenberg in Mittelbergheim. This vineyard lies on marno limestone-rich soils with a south to south-east exposure at altitudes between 220 and 350 metres, allowing the grapes to ripen optimally and develop exceptional aromatic intensity. The vineyards are managed organically, with traditional soil management and natural vegetation between the rows. The grapes are harvested by hand and strictly selected, so that only perfectly ripe bunches are used for this rich Grand Cru.
After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, followed by a 24-hour static clarification. Fermentation takes place in thermally controlled stainless steel tanks for about 15 to 20 days. The wine then ages for about six months in inox, fully preserving the grape's aromatic expression. With 13% alcohol and a moelleux style, it creates a wine with a full texture, soft sweetness and impressive aromatic complexity.
In the glass, this Grand Cru shows a deep golden yellow colour. The bouquet is intense and seductive with aromas of mango, candied apricot, honey and exotic fruit. On the palate, the wine is rich, round and aromatic, with a long and elegant finish in which subtle bitter notes provide balance and depth. This Gewurztraminer is a distinctly gourmet wine, pairing perfectly with foie gras, spicy cheeses, Asian dishes or fruit desserts such as lemon meringue.
