The Müller-Thurgau ‘Müller’ is a special wine for several reasons. It is a cross-regional cuvée: 45-year-old Müller-Thurgau from limestone soils on the edge of the Black Forest in Baden, combined with organically grown Mosel grapes from slate soils. In this way, it combines the floral delicacy of the former with the mineral precision of the latter.
The grapes undergo five days of skin contact before being gently pressed. The wine is then aged for 8 to 9 months on the lees in stainless steel, with light filtration and a touch of sulphur added at bottling. In the glass, it is clear and pale yellow. The nose is cool, yeasty and herbaceous, with citrus notes, a hint of stone fruit and traces of nutmeg and nuttiness. On the palate, it is slender and juicy with cool fruit, lively acidity, a light grip from soft tannins, and yeasty and herbaceous notes. The finish is cool and nutty with a gentle juiciness.
A lovely wine to pair with smoked salmon with crème fraîche, soft, mature cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, or grilled fish with herbs. Serve at 9–11°C.
