Product description
Sangiovese Grosso is the grape of Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's great red wines. But at Piombaia, the organic estate in the hills of Montalcino, the same grape reveals an entirely different side. The Rosato di Piombaia "RosaScuro" is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, harvested in the first half of October by hand in crates. Its name, "dark rosé", immediately reveals its character: this is no pale, non-committal rosé.
The winemaking is natural and without added technology. The grapes macerate for twelve hours on the skins, followed by spontaneous fermentation for approximately twenty days in stainless steel tanks without temperature control, with light batonnage. The wine is then stabilised, cleaned, and naturally filtered outside the cellar in steel tanks throughout the entire winter. Bottling takes place in mid-February.
In the glass it shows a deep, dark rosé colour that lives up to its name. It is fresh, direct, and expressive, with the character of Sangiovese Grosso clearly present. A rosé for those who want more than freshness and lightness: a wine with backbone, made at an estate that treats organic farming and minimal intervention as its founding principle. Serve chilled as an aperitif or with light dishes.
