The Family Reserve is Torre Bisenzio’s absolute flagship wine, an exclusive and complex red blend that brings together the three international grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot. It is sourced from certified organic vineyards on the sunny slopes of Umbria, on sedimentary clay and gravelly-sandy soils containing marine fossils from the Middle Pliocene. Each grape variety is vinified separately following a careful manual harvest, after which the wine is aged for 18 months in barriques. Following blending, the wine undergoes a further 18 months’ ageing in stainless steel tanks, which enhances the integration of the three varieties and gives the wine exceptional ageing potential. With limited production, this is a wine made for the long term.
In the glass, the Family Reserve displays a deep, intense ruby colour. The nose is complex and pronounced, with intense aromas of red and dark fruit, complemented by floral notes of violet and sage from the Petit Verdot, the fruity juiciness and spiciness of the Cabernet Franc, and the dark peppery intensity of the Syrah. On the palate, the wine is well-structured, with firm yet ripe tannins and a long, multi-layered finish that confirms its ageing potential.
The Family Reserve is a gastronomic wine that is at its best with grilled red meat, roasts and stews, game such as venison and wild boar, mature hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes. It also deserves time in the cellar to reveal its full complexity.
