Domaine Gilg's Gewürztraminer Vieilles Vignes 2024 is an expressive and aromatic Alsatian wine, from more than 30-year-old vines around Mittelbergheim, Gertwiller, Andlau and Barr. The vineyards are on argilo-limestone-rich soils, which produce wines with both richness and balance. The estate operates certified organic and combines traditional soil management with natural vegetation between the rows. This sustainable approach allows the vineyards to maintain their biodiversity and the grapes to develop their full aromatic potential. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected so that only perfectly ripe and healthy bunches are used.
In the cellar, vinification is focused on preserving the grape's intense aromatic expression. After destemming and gentle pressing of the grapes, the juice is statically clarified for 24 hours. Fermentation takes place in thermally controlled stainless steel tanks at around 20°C and lasts around 15 to 20 days. The wine then matures for about eight months in inox, which allows it to retain its fresh structure while developing a nice roundness. With its slightly sweet style (moelleux), the wine acquires a rich and seductively soft texture.
In the glass, this Gewürztraminer shows an intense aromatic character with pronounced scents of exotic fruit, lychee and roses. On the palate, the wine is round, full-bodied and gourmand, with an elegant balance between fruity richness and fresh tension. The slightly spicy finish makes the wine particularly gastronomic. This wine is an excellent match for aperitifs, foie gras, Asian and Thai dishes, escargots and strong cheeses such as Munster.
