Domaine Gilg's Pinot Gris Vieilles Vignes 2024 is an elegant and harmonious white wine from Alsace, from more than 35-year-old vines around Gertwiller, Mittelbergheim and Andlau. The vineyards grow on argilo-limestone-rich soils, known for their ability to produce wines with structure, roundness and aromatic complexity. The estate operates certified organic and combines traditional soil management with natural vegetation between the rows. This sustainable approach keeps the soils vibrant and allows the grapes to best express their terroir and character. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected so that only perfectly ripe and healthy bunches are processed.
In the cellar, a vinification that emphasises the elegance and richness of Pinot Gris is chosen. The grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, after which the juice is statically clarified for 24 hours. Fermentation takes place in thermally controlled stainless steel tanks at around 20 °C and lasts around 15 to 20 days. The wine then matures for about eight months in inox, preserving its aromatic purity and developing its characteristic roundness and balance.
In the glass, this Pinot Gris presents itself with a bright golden yellow colour and a delicate bouquet of ripe yellow fruits. On the palate, the wine is round, full and harmonious, with a nice balance between fruitiness, structure and freshness. Its elegant style makes this wine particularly suitable as an accompaniment to white meats, poultry and refined dishes, but it also comes into its own with various gourmet meals where a full-bodied, elegant white wine is desired.
