The Grüner Veltliner Silberknollen Steinfeder 2025 is a light, fresh and elegant wine from the vineyards around Wösendorf in the Wachau. The deep soils along the Danube valley – a mixture of paragneiss, loam and loess – combined with the unique microclimate of the Wachau, form the basis for the light and fresh character of this Steinfeder. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand at the end of September when they have reached optimal physiological ripeness, after which they are carefully pressed following a short maceration. The must then ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
In the glass, the Silberknollen Steinfeder displays a bright straw-yellow colour with light green reflections. The nose is fresh and inviting, with delicate aromas of green apple, citrus and white flowers, complemented by the typical Veltliner ‘würze’. On the palate, the wine is light and lively, with a fresh acidity and a smooth, invigorating drinking style characteristic of the Steinfeder, the lightest quality category in the Wachau with a maximum alcohol content of 11.5%.
As a typical Steinfeder, the Silberknollen is a versatile dining wine that pairs excellently with light starters, salads, fish dishes and classic Austrian Jause. It also works a treat with vegetarian dishes and as a refreshing summer wine on the terrace.
