The Weißburgunder Smaragd 2025 is a full-bodied and characterful white wine from Wösendorf in the Wachau, and belongs to the region’s highest quality category. On the estate’s mountain and terraced slopes, on soils of paragneiss, loam and loess, the Weißburgunder grapes are harvested late, at maximum physiological ripeness, after which they ferment fully in stainless steel tanks until natural fermentation ceases. With an alcohol content of 14%, this Smaragd displays the concentration and ripeness characteristic of the Wachau’s finest vintages.
In the glass, the Weißburgunder Smaragd displays a bright, pale greenish-yellow colour. The nose is refined and inviting, with delicate notes of yellow pear, ripe quince and subtle hints of meadow herbs and walnut. On the palate, the wine is juicy and powerful, with a subtle acidity that beautifully balances the ripe fruitiness. A full-bodied, round wine with a lingering, elegantly fading finish.
With its full body and ripe fruitiness, the Weißburgunder Smaragd is an excellent accompaniment to creamy fish dishes such as salmon fillet or cod in a butter sauce, poultry with creamy sauces, veal, mushroom risotto and semi-mature Austrian cheeses. It also pairs excellently with rich Austrian dishes such as Tafelspitz.
